Teacher/Student Manual
The HOA Teacher/Student Manual includes the curriculum for 13 chapters divided into five units. The complete manual runs 560 pages and includes sections in each chapter for the teacher and for the student. Included are:
- Introductions: Background information on the topic covered in the chapter.
- Investigations: These are teacher/student activities to help introduce the material through hands-on investigation.
- Core Activities: These activities are those
deemed necessary for the student to accomplish in order to understand the material.
- Poster Pages: These interesting sections are interdisciplinary in nature - linking astronomy to history, art, etc. Here are two examples:
- From Chapter 4 - This page covers the Almanac Trial, in which Abe Lincoln used an almanac to successfully defend his client against murder charges.
- From Chapter 7 - This page explains how women overcame social prejudices to break into the field of astronomy and achieve brilliant scientific breakthroughs.
- Spacetalks: These sections explain how the current topic fits in with our understanding of the general nature of the Universe and outer space.
Here is the table of contents of the manual.
